These photos are absolutely superb!  I remember going up and down these stairs to the 6 Deck pool back in the '70's but do not really remember the One and Two Deck levels.

I find it interesting and peculiar that the landing for the lift for 2 Deck is between One and Two Deck (was there a One Deck lift landing?).  I looked and relooked at the photos and one must either climb 9 or 10 steps to get to One Deck or walk down 6 steps to get the Purser's Desk area on Two Deck; there is no access, door or other opening except for the stairs.

The only other place I've seen this is at Grace Bros. Department Store on "Are You Being Served" and I never understood that design either!

God bless our girl and her unique eccentricities and quirks!!!

Bob

I hadn't thought about the lift being between One and Two Decks. There was not a lift door on One Deck as the top picture shows. And the size of the ashtray outside the lift....

QE2 deck plans portray the F Stairway lift doors opening forward on 1 and 2 Decks.  Given your photos, personal account and my memory, there is only one lift landing for both of these decks which is the one shown in your photo and it clearly opens aft.

I don't recall this lift having a fore and aft door arrangement so perhaps the printer got it wrong or the deck plans are showing a crew lift by mistake?
