I've taken Rob's excellent QE2 Bridge Cam device and added it to an "auto refresh" page giving you a new view every 15 seconds.

It's superb - Rob, well done for capturing all the pics!!

I wonder when QE2's webcam started? Does anyone have the very first pictures, or pictures from the first month, or even year, of its operation?

I looked for a QE2 webcam for a long time, not knowing whether there was any, and if so, how best to find it -- and then finally found it together with the news that QE2 was to be sold... i.e. my own first downloads are from June 2007.

Princess Cruises installed the webcam when they took over 'management' of the ship on 15 August 2005.

First one I seem to have is April 11th, 2006, on the Suez Canal!

Yes, indeed, I am missing QE2 at work!

Here comes a question. On several of my work-related trips, I have taken time out to wander round miscellaneous ports (not many so far!) to look for traces of QE2 or try and imagine the port with her there.

The next such port coming up is Valencia in Spain. I am not at all sure that, after a long day's meetings, I shall get the chance to indulge myself in this way, but I did at least have a look today at Sam Warwick's list of itineraries to check whether QE2 had ever been there! Amazingly, I shall be visiting almost exactly a year after of her final call to Valencia, which was on 7 September 2008. Before that, I can only find one other call, on 19 April 2006.

Could it be that someone here was on board on either occasion? Did QE2 berth in the port, or was it an anchor port? I have never been to Valencia in my life, so if the answer is obvious, I am still quite ignorant in the matter...

Your help would be appreciated    :)   !

Well, Andy F was in Valencia on QE2 last year :

... and I should have read his Forum contributions a bit better!

Today, I too found out that QE2 had berthed in Valencia. This is a huge port where the cruise ship business is a very minor branch (currently set for considerable growth). Valencia is the biggest container port in the Mediterranean, and I was lucky today to receive a friendly tour of a large acreage (and small percentage) of this impressive place. The people were well aware of QE2's fate, and told me that some of their friends had taken time off work to wave her off when she left on her final sailaway a year ago...

The webcam (wonderful!) shows QE2 alongside either on the port or starboard sides of the 'North Channel'.
Isn't this between the Irish Sea and the Atlantic - The Straits of Moyle?
Does someone know the name of the place, please?!

If my geography serves me right (and I am away from my atlas at present...), the North Channel is that stretch of sea that lies between Northern Ireland and Scotland. The webcam views saying that QE2 is in the "North Channel" are presumably from Belfast. Looking at the itinerary for the day should help to identify the place with near certainty.

Later edit : Greenock also seems to be described as "North Channel" on at least some of the webcam pictures! True, of course, but not as precise as we might like it to be...  ;D

Rob - I have a colourful sequence of 12 saved from the final arrival at Dubai last year if you'd like copies of them...?

Random bridgecam picture that I caught this evening. This shows QE2 in Cartagena, Colombia. Lots of containers in the picture.

Which other container ports did she frequent (I can name Singapore, was there when she was) :) .
