As seen in the attached photo, there is what looks to be a metal strip or cover that runs up the wall (pointed out by the black arrow).  The photo in reply #189 in the below shows a similar cover strip of the same width on the opposite end of the 1/2 wall. 

It's apparent that something was there and was changed to the current 1/2 wall configuration. 

Does anyone know what that might be or have been?
