June 2019 : QE2 cabin decks
« on: Jun 03, 2019, 10:04 PM »
This month's theme is "QE2 cabin decks", chosen by Clydebuilt1971, the runner-up of the February 2019 competition. Looking forward to your photos, and to reliving memories of home from home on board QE2!

Enjoy the competition and the memories :) .

The prize this month is the book The QE2 Story by Chris Frame and Rachelle Cross, donated by me, Isabelle Prondzynski.

This is currently selling for GBP 4.99 at Amazon UK.

Alternatively, June Ingram is offering a jigsaw of the prizewinning picture. The choice is yours -- which will it be?

How to enter

The album is open -- so now is the time to look for your three most interesting pictures on this theme. Wishing you happy memories as you search your photo collection to find up to three pictures to upload to the competition album.

This link will take you straight there : QE2 cabin decks.

If you have not uploaded photos to the Forum Gallery before, have a look at these instructions, and if you have any problems, just contact us on admin@theqe2story.com. You could even email the photos to this address, and we can upload them for you.

The deadline for submitting photos is 30 June 2019. Voting will run from 1 July 2019 until 31 July 2019.

We look forward to seeing your photos in this month's competition.

This is the tenth month of photos for the 2020 calendar. Maybe your photo will figure there!

Enjoy yourselves!  :)

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Thanks to Cunardqueen and Cunarder Man for uploading photos.

I have had a look at my QE2 albums but unfortunately I do not have any photos of the cabin decks.  I took photos of public areas and cabins but not the decks outside the cabins from when she was cruising.  I do have photos taken this year but these would not be eligible.

Hoping more members had the foresight to taken photos and can upload them to the competition.

Lynda, the way I interpret this theme, is that the cabins themselves are very much part of it, not just the alleyways :) .

These are the decks on which the cabins are located, i.e. the entire deck from fore to aft and from port to starboard. I would even see the little Traveller's Cove shop as being located on a cabin deck, and also the Midships Lobby, as this is entirely surrounded by cabins.

In any case, these are the type of photos I intend to upload, and I hope that we can bring together a goodly selection of them! One third of the month has already passed, so it is time to look for suitable pictures and share them with us in the photo competition :) .

Thanks Isabelle for confirming the scope of this month's theme, which certainly will encourage more people to enter.  Getting photos of the decks outside the cabins would be fantastic but also having the opportunity to see the little nooks and crannies and the actual cabins will be so interesting.

Looking forward to seeing lots of photos once everyone makes the difficult choice of which photos to enter.

Sometimes its quite interesting to see how we all interpret the subject. This topic, however has been the most taxing yet.

We have 14 photos so far, have a look :

https://www.theqe2story.com/forum/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=202

There must be more of them, lurking in many a photo album or collection. Looking forward to seeing them here! Anything on the cabin decks, be it cabins, fittings, corridors and halls, including views up and down stairways from a cabin deck.

And of course, for those with cabins in the penthouses, balconies are also very welcome.

So long as the picture is taken from and of a deck on which cabins are located :) .

Just contributed with photos my Dad took that are shared with permission as always. A tricky theme to interpret, hopefully I haven't gone "off theme" with my choices!
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.
