No idea who Clive Swift is but the answer is still the same.   NO
Are we still on the topic of Keeping Up Appearances? If so it could help if we knew just a bit more. Like are we going for a actual person or a character from the show?

Actually, we are on the topic of the poll for the photo competition on Rough Weather :) . Please vote even while discussing other matters quite beyond my ken...

He played Richard, Hyacinth's husband…the guy in the photo also seeming to not have much hair! Back to the drawing board regardless  ;)
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Right well before this 'sub plot competition' overtakes the main theme of the thread the answer!

In the QE2 episode of 'Keeping up appearances' 'they' come out onto Boat Deck from the door by the stairs in photo No 9 and an Officer [The Chief Officer at the time] is coming down the stairs and says; "You can't go up there."

The man in photo No 32  with his back to the camera and with the silver hair is the same man - Martin Stensall, who when No 32 was taken was by then St Capt.

FYI; The man on the left is Captain Ian McNaught who left Cunard and went to Seabourn, briefly, before being 'head hunted' to be Deputy Master of Trinity House.

A further interesting point is that the right hand man in the white shirt, is called Alvin, he was the Bosun and was 'head hunted' by Ian McNaught for Seabourn where i believe he still is.

I remember that scene in the episode now you've mentioned it, although I wouldn't have known he was the same person in both photos - I have heard of his name mentioned on this forum for example but know nothing else.

Ian McNaught is unmistakable however...he mentioned that he had a former QE2 Bosun onboard the Seabourn ship he commanded at the time of his interview for this website/forum back in 2010 or so. My Auntie and her husband know Ian personally through the talks he gives at organisations and having met him at Trinity House. My Dad and my (same) Auntie (my Dad's sister) sailed on the Tandem Transatlantic with QV in January 2008 with Ian in command and very much, cheekily, knocking QV during the crossing...he probably wasn't too keen to end up as QV's captain in 2009. Does anyone know what periods of time Ian was in command of QE2 after his appointment in April 2003 (excluding the final couple/few months of the final season)?

Please feel free to make this a separate topic, Mods, as it is an interesting conversation but could drown out the purpose of this topic.

Apologies and this really is  my last post on this - honest!

Martin Stensel was also part of the 'ethnic cleansing' from Cunard in 2005 and went to Princess, he was my Captain on Sun Princess in 2006/7.
Later on he took a Princess contract as he was married to a Canadian and lived in Canada so a US$ contract was the best option for him.
A nice man and a pleasure to work with, sadly he suffered from ill health so i don't know if he's still at sea or retired. At one stage on Sun Princess we had 3 Captains out of 5 who were Cunard contracted Captains, Princess didn't know what 'hit them' as they were totally different to the Italian Captains  with a more relaxed and hands on style of commanding, BRILLIANT times!

21 voters now, and just under one day left to vote.

Lots of great memories in these pictures... QE2 in rough weather was a great experience for any one lucky to have been on board on such days...

If one wasn't badly seasick  ;) Although she showed some more of her character with the significant creaking of the hand made cabins in the rough weather (QM2 creaks as well but not quite as much)...so even for me there's at least one positive to look back on in this context!
