QE2 Designer: Professor Misha Black

Misha Black was born in Baku (Azerbaijan) in 1910.  He died in October 1977
Received a knighthood in 1972

Professor of Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art, London

He was one of the principal architects for the Festival of Britain Exhibition in 1951, along with James Gardner and Hugh Casson.  In the People of Britain exhibition he was responsible for the Land of Britain exhibits, highlighting agricultural, industrial and scientific achievements. 

1959 - 1961 President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design.

Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers, and winner of the Minerva Medal, the Society's highest award.

1974 - 1976  President of the Design and Industries Association

Misha Black designed the Synagogue on the QE2
