I very much like the system I encountered some years ago in India (for fruit juices) : There were two prices, one for the fruit juice with ice cubes, and a higher one for the same fruit juice but without ice cubes. I would always be prepared to pay extra to have a glass full of whatever I ordered, and no ice cubes.

I must also admit that in any case I do not really like my drinks to be very cold...

I am not a great lover of ice cubes either.  At my first opportunity, I shall ask for a QE2 cocktail to be made up.

Maybe on the ship herself, depending on how she's operated as I know alcohol is banned or frowned upon in Dubai but is still available in the resorts. They will want QE2 to appeal to a wide range of people to be successful in the long term (Dubai having a large British expat community too for example).

Louis, it was even better than what I had remembered. In September there was so much going on, particularly for me as one of the organisers. But last week I enjoyed relaxing and sipping the cocktail.

I thought the ice added to the drink as it may have been too strong for me without the ice - maybe the bartender could add more orange juice, if you did not want ice, but then again that may adjust the balance of the flavours.?

Maybe,  I should buy the ingredients and try making the cocktail myself - or maybe not as it is a treat to experience QE2's special QE2 50 cocktail when it is made for you.

It's my birthday I'm 54 so I plan to have four QE2 50 cocktails at least one made with "orange juice ice cubes"

It had a bit of an aftertaste but got better as the orange juice melted and was really nice once the orange juice melted. My sister lives in Glenlivet in the Cairngorms so the choice of whisky was easy.

In post #18 what is the red in the bottom of the glass with the ice in the pic as the liquor is being added? It seems like more than a dash of amaretto and helps transform the orange juice into the Cunard red?

According to the recipe, it's supposed to be Grenadine, but in reality was Marie Brizard strawberry. The taste was good, but I had no way of comparing it with the original recipe.

It really was very good. If I had had the chance to ask for it anywhere since then, I would certainly have gone for it again.

I believe there is a cocktail craze going on during this lockdown period. Has anyone tried to make it at home?

Davina, you could have quite a long queue at your bar if you are serving QE2 50 cocktails.  It certainly was a favourite at the Crowne Plaza with the conference delegates.
