QE2 on UK TV : BBC and ITV Holiday programmes.

Hi,

I have hazy memories of, every now and then, QE2 being featured on holiday programmes in the 70s and 80s (and maybe even 90s).  I remember as a small child being very excited to see QE2 (that exciting, famous ship my Dad worked with) on TV.   I believe the programmes were "Wish you were here" and "Holiday".

So... my question is, do any recording survive and does anyone share my memories of these programmes?

Just about the only thing I can find is this, which I'd love to see!

When jet aircraft appeared on the travel scene - especially the wide-bodied 'jumbos' - they signalled the end of the old trans-Atlantic liners, or so it seemed. But one at least survives to carry on the tradition. Cliff Michelmore reports on a travel experience which combines the luxury of the QE2 and the style of New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Hi Rob,

There may well be 'vintage' holiday programmes (Like Wicker et al ) on both Sky and possibly Freeview TV.
Also, you may find QE2 on youTube by coincidentally looking for the Holiday TV programmes, when she possibly featured as an extra, 
'bystander or 'vehicle (so sorry!)  - I remember them all so well! John Carter, Judith Chalmers, Cliff Michelmore etc etc

and there are several snippets to work through...then add QE2

Brideshead  also comes to mind, if indeed it was filmed  on board QE2
Not too certain about the BBC Archives - I wonder whether Paul Clifton could help?
And the programmes producers...?

Also, maybe there'll be references in some of the books about QE2

i remember in early 86 The BBC holiday programme featured a crossing to New York on QE2 commentated on by Cliff Michelmore. l paid special attention to it as l was sailing in the Summer on the same ship to the same destination. I might just have a video of the programme. If l remember it appeared to be nothing more that stock footage with a voice over.

And Naturally Alan Whicker and the Fast Boat to China when it was shown it really got me started on QE2 and l sat glued to the TV amazed by it all.  l managed to get a DVD of it, some were given out at our first QE2 story gathering . And on the odd night when its quiet, it nice to sit back and watch QE2 in the good old days.

Then of course there was the TVTimes and their cruise with the stars.
Brideshead had a very small part in "The Storm" episode. bink and you would miss QE2. bust shes there.

Ahh Dear Judith, shes actually a distant relative,My Granny kept telling me that fact whenever l went away traveling.
Imagine a beer at 60p and a three hour tour for £4.50

Which begs the question, Was dear old QE2 better back then or in her later years.

Hi Rob, Judith Chalmers did a "Wish You Were Here" I think it was called in 83 on board. Chef Vic Coward did a food preparation demonstration for her in the kitchen. He was running late, she was getting impatient picked a chef out of the assembled crowd to do the demo who hastily got a clip around the ear hole from Vic as he turned up. That chef was myself my moment of fame snatched away from me.
