QE2 - Theme Cruises

Do you remember these?

http://www.lighthousetravel.com/News/qe2_theme_cruises.htm

There are references to the Jazz Festival in the photograph collection here
both in the Grand Lounge where black leather chairs (photos #5 and #25) were much in evidence near the stage
Also in the Book Shop (photo #19) where books on Jazz were on display.

Who can't forget the 1980s and the QE2/TV Times  (TV listing paper) cruise with the stars..
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

Count Basie and his band was on for a Caribbean cruise back in the 70's. They would play their set in the Double Room and after midnight most of them would head down to the Q4 and jam till the early hours. Sarah Vaughan was on with them (I think as a passenger) and she would also sing in the Q4 sometimes joining Basie's singer (her name escapes me) for a duet. You would get more than 10 musicians crammed on the tiny stage all impromptu. Great memories, I have photos buried away in my loft I will try to find them.

Hi Kevin -

Thanks very much for the fascinating information about Count Basie and His Band.  It certainly must have been a wonderful time and a source of wonderful memories.  I do hope you can find some of the pictures to share with us.
