Corridor Ashtrays

Dotted about the corridors were ashtrays with that could flip out to make for easier cleaning and emptying.

I don't advocate smoking anytime and anywhere but these ashtrays are/were a carryover from the culture of the golden era of the trans-Atlantic liner and yet another reason QE2 is the last of her kind.

The ship as well as the culture she represents (evidenced by such things as the above) must be preserved!!!

Didn't she also have larger box type ashtrays on the deck railings, wonder if they are still there.....

The conversation on ashtrays just 'sparked' another memory. In the Casino we had large waste bins sitting here and there, black with a chrome flip top cover that had "no cigarettes" or something similar written on top......these were constantly catching fire due to lit cigarettes being dumped on top of napkins......
The smokers also used the change cups as ashtrays, an unpleasant surprise for the next user......

Yes, they were red and had "Cigarette Ends" stenciled on them in black.  I remember that since they are referred to as "cigarette butts" in America.  "Ends" is much classier.
