'Q4 Gold'

‘Q4 Gold’ was a special tint used in metal details throughout the ship. The tint was found most noticeably the copper-coloured aluminium ceiling in the Columbia Restaurant. It was also to be found in the staircase balustrading and in the passenger corridors on One, Two and Three Decks in aluminium beading protecting the Formica panels.

And once you know to look for it, you could still see it all over the place, even in her final season and today.

It was features such as the "Q4 gold" that Michael has described that would be unique in today's cruise ship market and it is just such a pity that we cannot go onboard to appreciate such features.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

I have been thinking about the Q4 Gold, and it is true, it does stand out in memory and in pictures, and true, it is a unique feature not to be found in current cruise ships.

QE2 is unique in every way.  There is no mistaking her for any other ship, unlike most "modern" cruise ships, where if one has "a few too many", one would not know which ship to board.   ;D

So true!

very true - hopefully there isn't enough 'gold' to warrant 'weighing her in' to extract it  ;)

Hello Michael

Please, was it possible to capture this effect in photos?
I just wonder how long it remained on board for...?
It seems from what's been mentioned above,
that there should be a sort of 'metallic ' sense of it, even in memories....

Thank you
Rosie
