The Southern Evening Echo of 7 October 1988 praised the skill of Captain Bennell for avoiding an accident when a freak 72 knot gust of wind caught the ship as she made a sharp turn to port off Cowes.

Cunardqueen, who was onboard ship at the time of the incident kept these newspaper clippings.

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

My first night on board. Remember the ship shuddering then the phone going in the radio room. I heard “this is the BBC, we hear you nearly ran in to the Isle of Wight, can we speak to the bridge please…” 😂😂

Other than a slightly windy departure , and seeing a small bird on deck "resting" we didn't realise anything was a miss.
The last phrase , summed up how the Bay was for us , giving us value for money
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!
