Miscellaneous mentions of QE2

You will find below a link to an obituary for "Mike Raudles, a welder by trade who worked on the QE2" :

What I found so interesting is that the article hardly mentions QE2, which does not seem to have had  a significant impact on Mike Raudles's life. And yet -- such is the QE2 magic -- his spell on QE2 merits this phrase and a whole sentence :

During the mid-1980s, he worked in Barbados on the QE2, which he enjoyed as it involved deep sea diving, one of his hobbies.

... as well as another mention in the headline of the article.

Had it been any other ship, or any other employer, it would have been left unmentioned.

Indeed  the article does not say much about his work on QE2 but the newspaper knows that if they mention QE2 in the Headline that will encourage readers.  It just shows how famous the ship is and this is why she deserves better than what is happening to her now.

Just listening to 'As Time Goes By' on Radio 4 Extra (series 1, episode 5) whilst perusing the forum and QE2 was referred to as an example. 'Enough grease to to do all the bearings on QE2' or similar. Made me think, what do people use as an example now she is no longer current?
