2008 Farewell World Cruise
« on: Nov 28, 2009, 12:13 PM »
As its was my final voyage from Sydney-Singapore on the world cruise sector for 2008, i got the 2nd last cabin in the Mauretania with my father. It was the kind of decision you had to make on the spot without delay. It was always going to be a simple 'YES' really didnt have to think about it. And i certantly dont have any regrets.

I have just booked my father and i on the new Queen Elizabeth from Sydney-Hong Kong world cruise sector 2011. Im very excited. Just counting down the months. 8) ;D

Some video from 2008 Farewell World Cruise

I came across these videos that I never knew I'd taken (or had forgotten).

The quality is less than magnificent, due mainly to them being taken on an old Nokia phone, but hopefully you'll enjoy them anyhow.

QE2 passes QV:

This was the final blast from QE2's whistle while near the city of Sydney:

And finally, a moment that all those aboard will remember -the final equator crossing:

Enjoy.

"Weighing nearly 70 tons..."

I think the narrator is a bit off...but only by a factor of 1000.

I can't believe it's been this long already but three years ago today my wife and I said farewell to QE2 in Long Beach, CA.

Such happy memories of this wonderful ship. What a joy it was to be aboard that final Australian voyage. The atmosphere was electric as QE2 passed QV and berthed at Circular Quay for the last time.

Interesting that her maiden and final calls to Sydney took place on the same day, 24 February, exactly 30 years apart, in 1978 and 2008 respectively! I imagine there was some very clever planning behind those dates...

Stumbled upon this brochure from 2007 advertising the 2008 word cruise by its original name - printed before QE2 was sold!

Brochure is my from collection - cover imagery and original artwork is (c) Cunard.
