The Hideaway Bar was originally called the Players Club Lounge when it was created in 1982 in the post-Falklands refit and was the bar for the Players Club Casino. The new Lounge area (complete with a new ’L’ shaped bar) was created in the port side promenade between the Casino and the entrance of the Tables of the World Restaurant. The stylish décor consisted of beiges, greens and mink brown velour with marble tables with striking glass lamps, each crowned with trailing plants, giving the area a garden-like atmosphere. A new dividing system could easily shut the Casino off from the lounge allowing passengers to take full advantage of the new lounge even when QE2 was in port. It is pictured as it appeared in 1982.
In subsequent years it became known as the Hideaway Bar.
When the Casino was completely redone in 1990 the promenade area located between the Casino and port entrance to the Mauretania Restaurant, was also redecorated along the lines of the Casino and made much more comfortable as a result with new sofas, chairs and tables and lamps created an intimate atmosphere.
As for a Champagne Bar - QE2 never had one as such but the Princess Grill Bar on One Deck was going to be turned into a decdicated one at various times and perhaps is the closest QE2 came to having a Champagne Bar as such!
