November 2017 : Marks of character -- scratches, dents, repairs and patches

This month's theme is "Marks of character : scratches, dents, repairs and patches", chosen by Hamburger, the winner of the August competition.

This will be interesting... there were so many, but did we take pictures of them?

The album is open -  so now is the time to look for your most interesting pictures on this theme. Wishing you happy memories as you search your photo collection to find up to three pictures to upload to the competition album.

Only four photos entered for this month's competition and three of them are my photos. 

As we are nearly half way through the month, we would appreciate if you could have a look at your photo albums  for "QE2 Marks of character ...  scratches, dents, repairs and patches".  Not only will you be supporting the competition but it also gives an indication of the dents repairs and patches that could be seen on the ship.

I've uploaded mine! It took a bit more searching than usual, but was fun.

Many of our exterior details of QE2 would show up patches and scrapes... once I started looking, I had more then enough pictures to enter. She had a lot of history to show... and like the face of a dear one growing older, I loved those wrinkles too!

Tip for others - even if you don't think you took such photos, I bet if you look hard you can find some in the background of your other photos!

If you are talking about film photos scan them with a flatbed scanner (cheaply available on Amazon) as however hard you try photographing your photos it will give disappointing results.

Yes - and you'll probably need at least 300dpi, especially if you are scanning from matt prints.

Indeed, the film photos of mine from our August 2003 first trip were scanned automatically at 300dpi on the vertical and horizontal according to the image data. It seems a lot of modern scanners will automatically adjust unless one goes out of their way to do it manually.

That's correct - to use anything other than the default setting of the particular scanner, it will need to be set for each individual scan.

Most these days do default to 300dpi, thankfully, but older ones might be set lower.
