Navy Career:1938: started career with Blue Funnel Line at the age of 16
1939-1945: WW2 Service as a Junior Officer in the Merchant Navy, including
ferrying British Forces to Cherbourg and in 1940 was involved in the evacuation of Alied Forces from Dunkirk.
1942: Jackson’s ship "Mentor" was torpedoed North of Cuba on 28 May 1942 by German U Boat. Jackson was adrift for five days before being rescued by another Blue Funnel ship, Antilochus.
1948: Obtained Master’s Certificate
1968: First Command – RMS Franconia*
1973:Captain of QE2 on 6 August 1973
1976: Master of Cunard Countess
1982: Captain onboard QE2 for Falklands Conflict when the ship was requisitioned by the Secretary of State for Trade under the Requisitioning of Ships Order 1982
1983: Retired after 36 years with Cunard Line and 14 years as Master of Cunard Liners

Quote:*RMS Ivernia was a Saxonia class ocean liner, built in 1955 by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland for Cunard Line, for their transatlantic passenger service between the UK and Canada. In 1963 she was rebuilt as a cruise ship and renamed RMS Franconia, after the famous pre-war liner RMS Franconia. She continued to sail for Cunard until being withdrawn from service and laid up in 1971.
