I have mine on an external hard drive...but it's taken from the top of the piers in NYC, from Quarter Deck-up, with my mother walking in front. 21(?) December 2003.

Notice the green highlights in the centre of the carpet, which match the seats?  The seats changed to blue in April 2008!

My first glimspe:

What a memory to treasure!

What was the occasion, why were so many people there at the time? I am sure there is a story here...  :D

It was a Friday in August on board the Paddle Steamer Caledonia. In the "high" summer in those days either the Caledonia or Waverley made a weekly up river trip from Largs to Glasgow to view the shipyards and quays on the upper reaches of the Firth of Clyde.

The following year I did the corresponding trip on Waverley when of course the QE2 had been launched and was in the fitting-out basin. This started my interest in the vessel little thinking I woud manage to see her on my home river at North Shields, or even more impossibly that I would ever have the good fortune to make a memorable voyage on board.

First photo was in Clydebank after she was launched which I have posted before.  The first photo onboard the ship was in 1997.

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

A great photo, Rob!

The angle of that gangway - never would it 'pass muster' today!

Everyone's carrying their suitcases - would this be passengers, or crew joining?

And thinking about wheel-chair users - how did they embark, I wonder?

(Is there a gangway topic...?)
